Physical Education, Sport and Health

Head of Department: Mr Dean Wilson

Our departmental approach to the curriculum

A high-quality experience of Physical Education and Sport can provide children with life-changing benefits to their well-being and give them a brighter future. We therefore believe in offering a Physical Education curriculum that gives every one of our students the best possible opportunities to make a positive impact on their physical, mental and social development. We achieve this through a comprehensively broad, balanced and inclusive experience that equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to shape their own physically active behaviors for the rest of their lives.

Our Learning Journeys:

Core Physical Education

All students receive two hours of core Physical Education throughout Key Stages 3 and 4 and have access to our extensive rage of extra-curricular sport and health related activities and clubs; an abundance of opportunities to be physically active each week!

For students wishing to extend their study in the subject area, we provide Physical Education and Sports qualifications at Key Stage 4 and 5 as follows:

Key Stage 4

  • GCSE Physical Education – AQA
  • BTEC Level 1/2 First Award in Sport – Pearson

Key Stage 5 (16-19)

  • A Level Physical Education – AQA
  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport (RQF) – Pearson (Equivalent to 3 A Levels)
  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport (RQF) – Pearson (Equivalent to 1 A Level)
