TEAM ‘Super Mary’O’s’ and STEM.

Year 8 are currently taking part in a fantastic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) opportunity in building a car. Greenpower are sponsoring the St Mary’s College kit car, which is to be raced on Monday 16th July at Gainsborough race course, with 30 other regional schools.

This opportunity has been the epitome of team spirit. Pupils have worked together on the structural work, electrics, body work, graphics and promotion. It was a voluntary extra-curricular opportunity which students volunteered to take part in. They have developed vital skills and attributes which will support pupils’ progression into STEM based careers; notably communication, team work, creativity and problem solving.

Guest speakers from different engineering sectors (medical engineers, manufacturing engineers and design engineers) expressed how impressed they were with the team and have offered them future work experience.  St Mary’s College Creative Arts Faculty are proud of what the team ‘Super Mary’O’s’ have achieved and we look forward to an exciting race on Monday !
