Statement from the St Cuthbert’s RC Multi Academy Trust further to the Prime Minister’s announcement: 10.05.20

11th May 2020

Following the Prime Minister’s statement on 10th May 2020 we note that for the immediate future, as far as our schools are concerned, nothing has changed.

We will continue, as we have done throughout ‘lockdown’, to offer places for a very small number of children who are either the children of key workers or are ‘vulnerable’ children. This will remain the case until half term. In the meantime, we will continue to work hard to understand and interpret the regular guidance briefings from the Department for Education and to work with the Local Authority, in partnership with local schools with a view to expanding the number of school places available, when it is safe to do so.

The current advice from central Government is that if the ‘five tests’ have been passed and the ‘R’ level is low enough this could potentially begin in England’s schools next month, starting with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children. The extent to which this will apply to the Primary schools in the St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Multi Academy Trust will depend upon the local context and the outcomes of our own rigorous risk assessments. There are currently no specific plans for secondary schools to change the current provision.

In the meantime, we will continue to support home learning in the way that we have been doing throughout the ‘lockdown’ period.

We thank you for your patience and forbearance during this challenging time and assure you that at the heart of our current planning processes, is the health and safety of all of our children and staff.

Peter Fearnley
Chair, St Cuthbert's RC Academy Trust
