SMC collaborate with the University of Hull on PPE distribution

6th May 2020

St Mary’s College have been invited to take part in a collaborative project with Hull University to distribute much needed PPE for both the health and social care sectors across the local community.

Hull University has been manufacturing tens of thousands of medical standard face shields for key workers, supporting local and national efforts to combat COVID-19. The University’s Engineering & Business faculties have been working in conjunction to raise money and meet needs. The project is supported by local companies and a successful fund-raising campaign.

The re-usable face shields are now being delivered to the local community….and this is where we have been invited to help.

A group of seven of our Year 13 students, who are part of the Medical, Health & Social Care Academy, have volunteered to work with the project. Over the next few days they have been allocated 1,000 face shields to help distribute. They have been given a postal code area in Hull, and with the support of the University, are researching local need, approaching organisations and coordinating distribution.

This is a great opportunity for our students to work with one of our key partners in the Medical Academy and to support such a fantastic project in the local community.
