SM6 students produce a stunning set of A - Level results

10th August 2021

In the face of over a year of online learning, study from home and cancellation of exams, Year 13 students collected their teacher determined grades from the college this morning to cheers of joy and relief in securing their preferred places on university courses or onto career developing apprenticeships and employment.

Stories of success came thick and fast across the morning, however there was no doubt that it had been the most unusual two years of preceding studies.

Lian Al Khamys said that the journey had undoubtedly been a stressful one but was made so much easier by the help received from the amazing teachers at the college who were in contact with her on a daily basis providing support and encouragement. Lian was delighted to be part of the college’s Medical, Health & Social Care Academy (MHSCA) which she claims gave her the edge in her application to study Nursing in Leeds from September.

Praise for the MHSCA also came from fellow students Amy Hutchinson and Alex Fortes-Kolesnyk who described their experience at SM6 as one which has built up resilience and perseverance for their studies ahead and were particularly thankful for the mentorships provided by NHS professionals Dr Roper and Dr Neuman. Amy will go on to study Medicine at the Hull York Medical School and Alex joins the Medicine course at Leicester University with a scholarship to support his studies and the prospect of a placement at the prestigious Sorbonne University in Paris during his course.

Lucy Traill and George Campion both joined the college as new students in Year 12 and will treasure their time at SM6 for the support from the ‘friendly and approachable’ SM6 course leaders. They have both made friends for life at the college.

Leigh Haworth, Vice Principal and Director of Sixth form said: I am so proud of the achievements of our 2021 Year 13 cohort today. In spite of the unprecedented difficulties they have faced this year, they have overcome the adversity to achieve a truly fantastic set of outcomes with a 100% pass rate and 120 A* grades. This is testament to the hard work and resilience of our students, but also our amazing staff body, who have gone above and beyond in the support of our students.

Head of School, Maria Stead added: “It is essential to remember that this is the culmination of 13 years’ learning for students and the pinnacle of their educational career thus far. Students at SM6 have demonstrated unflinching resilience over the last 2 academic years and have achieved outstanding, world class results which they truly deserve. I wish all of our students happiness and great success as they take the next steps in their young adult lives.

World Class outcomes:

  • 100% pass rate across all subjects
  • 120 A* grades achieved
  • 77.7% A*-B grades for GCE A Levels
  • 92.2% grades A*-C across all subjects
