Our curriculum at St Mary’s College

The aim of our school is to foster the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of all pupils, believing that each individual pupil has a right to access a forward thinking, varied and exciting curriculum.

We aim to provide an education where pupils can explore their own beliefs and values whilst appreciating those of others, heighten their spiritual awareness, develop high personal standards and take time to care for the feelings of other people, acknowledge the significant contribution made to the school and wider community through the rich variety cultures represented within our school. In its widest context the curriculum is everything related to the school including the normal school timetable, the school ethos, what happens during break and lunch times and the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer.

Departmental videos

Usually at this time of year we look forward to welcoming you to our school on Year 6 Open evening so that you can explore the school site, visit various departments to try out activities, and speak to staff and students about life at St Mary’s College, but we have to do things a bit differently this year.

So, we’ve asked teachers from every department to make a short film about their subject including answers to questions they are often asked on Year 6 Open Evening.

The commitment from our staff and the wonderful facilities we enjoy ensure that every child who comes to St Mary’s College has the opportunity to achieve great things. Our philosophy that ability is not fixed ensures all students make excellent progress and that our staff go above and beyond to provide every opportunity for each student to achieve their very best. We believe that every student who comes through our doors has a talent and is able to use that individual talent to contribute to our whole school community – a belief our students embrace wholeheartedly.

Please take time to watch the departmental videos to gain an understanding of what you will study in Year 7 at SMC and what you have to look forward to!
