Our Mission

"Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength and love your neighbour as you love yourself"
(Mk 12:30-31)

St. Mary's R.C. Sports College exists to help parents and carers to educate young people spiritually, morally, physically and academically as well as possible. We aim to be a truly Christian community, where our relationships are built on encouragement, concern, respect, forgiveness and reconciliation.

Our religious life is rooted in the faith, practice and moral teaching of the Roman Catholic church. Each person in our community is specially valued and has an important part to play in making sure that we live out our mission.

Vision

St Mary's College has an outstanding reputation for Physical Education, School Sport, Health and Well Being in the city of Hull. This can be highlighted by its designation as a specialist Sports College and a hub site for a School Sports Partnership in 2001. Despite the withdrawal of the specialist Sports College funding in 2010, unlike most other schools St Mary's College has made a strategic decision to invest heavily in its commitment to high quality Physical Education, School Sport, Health and Well Being. Despite the decline in funding, St Mary's College has increased its commitment to Physical Education and School Sport. This can be highlighted by the retention of an Assistant Headteacher on the Senior Leadership Team with overall strategic responsibility for Physical Education, School Sport, Health & Well Being and Extra-Curricular Activities across the school and the St Cuthbert’s Multi-Academy Trust. For the past two years, we have been awarded the GOLD School Games mark.

The significant investment through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) of additional sports facilities highlights St Mary's College's commitment to the further development of Physical Education, School Sport, Health and Well Being. Approximately 13% of the total BSF budget of £19.5 million has been invested in a new specialist Sports Hall for trampolining and table tennis, 4G artificial pitch and 8 tennis court MUGA.

The outstanding facilities provide St Mary's College with a fantastic opportunity to develop a world class Physical Education, School Sport, Health & Well Being programme for its students. St Mary's College plays a major role in the organisation, management and hosting of competitive school sport opportunities across the city of Hull, the Humber area and Yorkshire. It is the dominant "hub" of school and community sport for the city of Hull. St Mary's College is a School Games Organiser hub site. It plays a lead role in developing physical education and school sport locally, regionally and nationally working with partners such as Hull Active Schools, Active Humber and the Humber School Games at a county level and the Youth Sport Trust at a national level.

St Mary's College aims to offer outstanding opportunities for its students through the delivery of a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum delivered by an OFSTED 'outstanding' Physical Education department. Students are offered a range of competitive school sport opportunities combined with a range of healthy lifestyle activities delivered by school staff, external providers and independent clubs. This is with a view to increasing the range of experiences that students have, enabling them to make informed choices for the adoption of healthy and active lifestyles in adult life. They can be the catalyst for improved academic performance, a lifetime interest or in some cases professional fulfilment in competitive sport. St Mary's College aims to provide a range of opportunities so that students can identify any sporting talents that they have (which are not yet discovered) through the extensive range of activities on offer. Students who wish to pursue their sporting talents to the highest level possible will be supported and nurtured through their journey physically, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally.

In addition, building upon the excellent base of community clubs which use the current facilities, St Mary's College is a "hub" for high quality local amateur, semi-professional and professional sports clubs. As a Youth Sports Trust, Leadership, Coaching and Volunteering school, St Mary's College plays an important role in developing volunteering within the local community. Our designation as a Youth Sport Trust/Football Association Girls Football Hub will allow us to develop coaching and officiating further.

St Mary’s College has made strategic partnerships to provide our students with an ever increasing outstanding offer. We have had a strategic partnership with the Tigers Trust for a number of years. This partnership has been enhanced and we now have a full time Tigers Trust officer on site as St Mary’s College has been designated as one of the First Community Hub Schools. In addition, we have a partnership with Hull FC and have a Director of Rugby on site for three days per week to develop rugby within the male and female curricular and extra-curricular programme.

Working with other partners such as the NHS, the local community through its access to facilities. This will provide a major contribution to the development of sport in Hull but also provide important resources for St Mary's College to sustain and maintain the outstanding facilities which its students and community users enjoy.
